Here’s a showbiz tip: write a really good song, and then get Lana Del Rey to sing it. It’s that easy. I listened to both of on these repeat for hours.
Tunes Tuesday: "Grace" by Marcus Mumford and "Peace Like a River" by Paul Simon
Peace and grace like a river, flow through me. “Grace” seems to end on a more hopeful, definitive note, Paul Simon’s song kind of meanders off into a dissonant key that’s a little haunting.
Tunes Tuesday: "Swear Jar," Soak
Prettiest voice and chorus: “Where have I been all my life?
Watching myself from the sidelines
Won't you wake me up sometime?”
Tunes Tuesday: "Crash," Nilüfer Yanya
This song is very repetitive, but if you have this good a hook, why not just sing it over and over?
We got it, Nilüfer, no more questions. I like the chugging guitar underpinning it all. (If you like this one, hit play on her song “In Your Head” next.)
Tunes Tuesday: "La Vie En Rose," Lucy Dacus
I’m all in for “Emily in Paris.” It came at the perfect time, a fantasy about wearing Chanel while eating croissants and organically building your social media clout. I’m so bought in that I’ve followed all the actors of Instagram. So in honor of Mindy, here’s Richmond gal Lucy Dacus covering Edith Piaf.
Dacus says about this song: “I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love.” I haven’t finished the series yet, but I could totally see a montage like that set to Dacus’s version in the finale, oui?
PS: Joe and I went to Le Grand Vefour on our honeymoon, the restaurant Emily is dying to get into in episode 4. That amused me!
Tunes Tuesday: "Luckiest Man," "Richest Man," "Happy Man"
Noticing a theme? Going for pure positivity today, via Kentavius Jones, Brendan Benson, and The Cactus Blossoms. I like that they’re all about our outlook and the relationships we have that make us feel lucky (or happy or rich, whatever the case may be).
